I have an 05 Convertible and the passenger side will not open. I have tried in vain to find a detailed description of how the sunroof/cables/hydraulics operate. The Bentley service manual does not go into detail on the subject. I found replacement cables and latches for sale at MiniMania for close to $600. this is a bargain compared to what the dealer wants!! I am willing to repair it, but cannot get any detailed information on the subject. It seems to be somewhat common with the convertibles. Does everyone take it to the dealer?? there is a post on YouTube showing installation but the video is very shaky and I would prefer detailed instructions. Does anyone know were they could be found? Has anyone done this repair?

Default faulty convertible top

I called the dealer to ask if there has been a warranty or recall on this. They did say an alignment was covered and I have an appointment to bring it in. As far as local upholstery shops--working on a MINI??? Not where I am!. I live in a rural area where if it isn't a Ford or Chevy, they don't want no "ferrin" vee-hickles. We are quite capable of taking on the repair if there were access to installation instructions somewhere! Can't find them. I am a bit disappointed in the Bentley service manual for not covering the convertible top more thoroughly. Who knows maybe the dealer will surprise me (in a good way!) and offer me a deal on the job. Its a well-known issue with the earlier models especially. I will post the results of the visit next week.

Just got back from the dealer. Adjustment was not the issue (somehow I knew it wouldn't be!) Replaced the passenger side sliding mechanism and gate. Labor and parts total $1228. Not too happy about the price: $800 in parts, $400 labor but its done and its warranteed by MINI for two years. Hopefully it will continue to be trouble free.
