Redesigning the Future MINI
Hello everyone,
My name is Carlos Mendez. I'm a student at Art Center College of Design. I and 3 other students are working on a student workshop sponsored by BMW/Mini to redesign the future MINI for the west coast of the US. In order to do this, we must know the MINI user. I've written a series of questions. Understanding the market is super important when designing a new car, so your cooperation would be fantastic. The outcome of this workshop will be featured in the December issue of the "MINI International" magazine (Vancouver issue).

What do you like/dislike most about you car most?
What do you think about the size? Did it influence your purchase?

Why do you drive a mini?
-Fun factor, style, comfort, individuality
What do you like/dislike most about you car most?
-Like: Suspension, curves Dislikes: most colors
What do you think about the size? Did it influence your purchase?
-Absolutely, if it was bigger I wouldn't have bought one. DON'T make it bigger.
Did the rising cost of gas have any influence in your purchase?
-Nope, gets worse milage and uses higher grade fuel than my Civic.
How much stuff do you carry in your car?
-I've moved with it.
What is your build? Tall, skinny, short, heavy set?
-6'0" thin
Male or Female?
-Male
What do you do for a living?
-Half student half engineer.
Do you use your vehicle to move to and from work?
-Yep
Do you use it as a company car?
-No
How many cars do you own?
-One
Are you married?
-No
Do you have children?
-Just my MINI.
How much do you drive?
-A lot. I've done about 15,000 miles in the last 8 months.
How much did you pay for yours?
-$27,000ish
What do you think of the cost of the car?
-I bought it in SoCal and it was way overpriced... oops.
Did you have any other vehicles you were thinking about when you purchased the MINI?
civic? lancer? other?
-S2000, GTI, Civic Si
What package did you get?
-Premium, Sprot, Convience and Cold Weather (all of them)
Did you get any accessories? e.i. cup holder
Yeah, cupholder... arm rest, aux input
How long have you had it for?
-8 months
Where do you live? Mountains, beach, etc.
-San Diego for 6 months, upstate NY for 2
Does it snow?
-Not yet
Do you go off-road?
-Nope
Do you feel safe driving the mini?
-Absolutely
How long do you plan to keep your MINI?
-Two more weeks. I'll have a new one though.
Do you have a convertible? if so, are you male or female?
-Nope, tintop here
What do you think about how it looks?
-Amazing! The 07's aren't curvey enough.
Do you like the back seat?
-Not really good for anything other than putting things.
Do you like the trunk space?
-It's not bad for a single guy, I can get all the groceries I need in it and the fold down seats are nice.
Do you wish it was bigger, or smaller like the original?
-It's just right.
Is it too cute?
-My current one, kind of... my new one, not at all.
What do you think of the Quality of manufacturing?
-Pretty good, it is a tiny BMW. There are quarks though.

Yes...aero kit, rear fog lamp(which sould be standard), chrom exterior, chrome interior, driving lamps, lisence plate, convertible:-), beige interior, chrome bonnet scoop, special exuasts, arm rest, cup holder because bottles barely fit into the standard ones, and a bunch more.

Its time for a redesign, something more aggressive.
Do you like the back seat?
Yes but my ferrari four seater has more room.
Do you like the trunk space?
No. At least make sure you can fit a golf bag in.
Do you wish it was bigger, or smaller like the original?
Is it too cute?
Bigger. No its not too cute.
What do you think of the Quality of manufacturing?
Good compared to a cayenne.
