2010 JCW Clutch issues?
#11
IHM, thanks for the feedback. Yes, I understand your points about the "void the warranty" situation completely, and agree with you on that ...and hopefully we will not have to replace the clutch and/or flywheel assembly, ever; or at least during the next two years of warranty that remains. That said, I am new to Mini's but I am very familiar with S1/S2 clutch assemblies from years of restoring, racing, autocrossing & rallying older BMWs. Most Stage 1 and many Stage 2 clutch packages are just fine for street driving with regard to the acceptable amount of engagement slip needed for "casual" stopn'n'go street driving, especially with a heavier steel OEM flywheel. I put a Stage 1 clutch assembly in my '76 BMW 2002 when I converted it from a 4 spd to a 5 spd tranny almost 10 years ago now. It has worked greart on the the track and does very well around town. And I intend to do the same with a '75 BMW I am currently working to put back on the track and road. A S1/S2 clutch designed for the street, with a little more clamping power and wear components made from longer lasting materials, would seem to be just the ticket to compensate for a problem caused by an OEM clutch that is "too small" with regard to surface to surface contact. At least that's the way I see it. Again, I hope we don't have to switch out the clutch in my wife's new/used Mini JCW. But if we do, based on everything I am reading, including your feedback, about the OEM clutch being too small, I would be inclined to upgrading the OEM components with regard to clamping pressure and wear components. Again thanks for your input...it all helps.
