The girlfriend just bought a 2016 Mini Cooper S Countryman with about 35,000 miles on it. Four days after purchasing this used car, she called me telling me the check engine light was on. She took it to a Autozone/Oreilly's Auto parts store to get it scanned. It was showing two error codes on their general scanner. P1338 and P0128. The suggestion from the auto parts store employee was to change the intake camshaft position sensor. I went ahead and ordered the parts and replaced BOTH camshaft position sensors, new spark plugs and an oil change.
I have now owned several BMW, so I then remembered I have the ISTA diagnostic software virtual machine saved on a hard drive. I loaded up VMWare and copied the VM over. I eventually hooked up the OBDII cable and got ISTA working. Scanning the car with more official BMW diagnostic software revealed the following codes pointing to something more specific. Has anyone seen the one showing "inlet camshaft: angle offset with respect to crankshaft outside tolerance"? If so, any idea on what would fix it?
