My key fob will unlock (and lock) the doors as well as the trunk. I can see the buttons go up and down inside and hear sounds from inside the door panels indicating there is a mechanical response to the signal from the key fob. Intermittently, it's been getting hard to open the passenger door so I lubed around the handle where I could which didn't help. Today I went to open the driver's side and it was impossible to squeeze the inside of the door handle hard enough to unlatch it. I then used the key and the key also locked and unlocked the door but the handle still did not respond to the tight squeezing of the handle. I called a lockout service and he watched me unable to squeeze the back of the handle hard enough to get the latch to release. Then he tried and with a lot more force than I had applied and he was able to get the interior of the door handle to depress enough that the door opened.
I've done a lot of research and learned there is an actuator and a motor in each door but I'm not sure that's my problem. Could the cable be worn but, if so, why has it been so hard to open the passenger's side for several months now but the driver's side has never given me a problem till today? I can see that there's a lot of labor needed to replace the actuators so I'd like to be able to describe my problem to a couple of shops I like to use to get quotes rather than leaving it to them to diagnose.

 

Did you attempt re-locking and opening, both with the vital in the entryway and with the open flip switch underneath the scramble? My significant other's 2004 once in a while should be relocked and opened with the flip change to exit.
