I own a 2016 Mini Cooper S and recently, I’ve been noticing some performance issues with the engine. There’s a noticeable lag when accelerating, and sometimes the engine seems to sputter a bit, especially when idling or during low-speed driving. I’ve had a check engine light come on a couple of times, but it goes off after a while.

I’ve already had the car scanned for codes, and it pointed to a potential fuel system issue, but I’m not sure if that’s the root cause. I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem or any insights on what might be going wrong. Could this be related to the turbo system, or maybe something with the fuel injectors?

Any advice or suggestions on what to check next would be greatly appreciated! I’m hoping to fix it myself if it’s a simple issue, but I don’t want to overlook anything important.

Sounds like it could be a fuel delivery issue — possibly dirty injectors, a failing fuel pump, or a clogged filter. Since there’s lag and sputtering, also check for vacuum leaks or a dirty MAF sensor. Given the turbo, don’t rule out boost leaks or a faulty diverter valve either. If you can, monitor live data (fuel trims, boost pressure) to narrow it down. Good luck!
