Default Buying a Mini, any suggestions?

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. Actually I'm a loyal enthusiast of MB. I own 2, an '04 E500 and an '06 SL500. However I respect and admire the other german engineered vehicles.
I'm looking for your opinion about Mini's reliability. I may have to buy a car for my daughter and I know she loves Mini. For a 16 year old the "cute" factor is the only thing that matters and I agree, it is cute.
Since I would be buying it used I would like to know if I am looking at expensive trips to the stealership. I have the diagnostic tool for MB and it paid for itself tenfold.
Is it easy to do maintenance and regular work or it requires the dealer to unlock things?
I would appreciate any input.

I don't know how long you have to wait but I posted the message right below yours along the same lines. I've had 70 people read my query but not one response (except my own) what kind of forum is this? All of the other car forums that I have had experience with in the past have been “more” than helpful. Are “Mini” too busy or just “don't care”. Yes, that's somewhat of a challenge “Mini owners”. Thanks in advance, hopefully. Jeffy

Default Disappointed

You are absolutely right Jeffy. I belong to the two main Mercedes forums and I can say that every time somebody asks opinion before buying a MB a lot of members jump in with suggestions. You almost cannot stop them.
And they are not only doctors or lawyers, they are truly enthusiasts of their vehicles. In my naive mind I was thinking that I would have to tone down the Mini opinions becasue of the obvious bias. I didn't expect to get nothing, not even a f$%# off.
The sad part is that it is convincing me to steer my daughter away from Mini no matter how much she likes it. This is proof in my mind that Mini owners are not happy with their vehicles enough to share it with other potential owners.
It was good talking with you though.

Radu
