Default Over heating

Hi...
So i bought my son a 2005 mini cooper which he absolutely loves. He had issus in the summer where the expansion tank was empty & the car was losing water. Took it to a 'garage' in Ithaca, NY that replaced the radiator & thermostat. Two weeks later the car is showing signs of bubbling in the expansion tank. So bsck to the Ithaca garage, Grumpy owner at rang me to say the engine was beyond repair, said it needed a new engine, laughed & told me it would cost $10,000...( more than the car is worth)... so i took the car back to the original garage i had bought it from 6 weeks earlier as i was very unhappy. They had the car for a week, constantly runninb it & said they honestly couldnt find any issue with it...this was beginning of August. Today my son is driving around, temp guage is rising quickly & fan is coming on so he's worried. He popped into the local garage that replaced the radiator to which the grumpy owner sighed, shook his head & walked away!
The garage we bought it from is 40 miles away & before i have to spend more money takinb it to them, i was hoping somebody knows of a good, trustworthy, mini mechanic near Ithaca that will be able to help my young son
thank you....
