Default Strut question for 05 convertable S

I posted just an hour ago but should have put the issue in the thread title. Sorry new to any type of forum.
Just got the car and rides pretty rough. I understand the S will ride rougher but question is when should struts be replaced? It has 52000 on it. Also looking to upgrade to KYB or bilstein. The car is for the wife so she will not care so much about performance she wants smoother ride. Is it worth the cost of the strut upgrade and will I get a smoother ride with those? I had bilstein on my BMW 5 and it made the ride rougher than the stock ones but handled great. Any help on this would be great.

you may want to consider getting struts for the base model to get a less stiff ride. Depending on the climate where you live and how the Mini was driven the struts will wear out at different mileage. 60,000 is my benchmark mileage. Where do you live? If your not looking for the performance upgrade, but a comfortable ride for the wife, I would use standard struts and save the money. But you know how us guys are...
