Hi there guys.

I am close to making a deal on a 2004 MINI Cooper S JCW edition. Looks clean, drives good...my major concerns are replacing the clutch, fixing some minor cosmetic issues around the body and general life of the car when past 90,000 miles.

After contacting some local dealerships with the car's VIN, all they confirmed for me was that the car was a 2004 cooper s...NOT a JCW edition. One of the dealerships said in 2004 there was no JCW offered that model year. Is that true??

I don't want to pay near top dollar for a top of the line Cooper that may not even exist!

I read an article that in 2004 ANY mini cooper could be brought into a dealership and for roughly $5,000 could get the JCW package tuning kit installed. The car was tested with it and reviewed with 37 extra horsepower, body kit, exhaust, etc.

Which is the real deal? Is it a real jcw edition or no?? Last 7 of the VIN is TD81627

The JCW kit likely was a dealer-installed option on the early cars, not a factory delivered setup. I am not positive; others woudl know more about this than me.
