Engine needs to be replaced on a Mini Cooper 2010
Hello
I need the engine on my Mini Cooper 2010 replaced as the old one ran out of coolant and ran hot for about 30 mins (Bad I know).
The price to replace the engine with another engine with 50K on it including labor is $ 5,700.
Does this sound reasonable (The resell of the car itself with a good engine is ~$6,000)
Additional questions:
What kind of warranty should I expect?
Does it need a compression test?
Should I also replace the clutch?
I am checking on whether the engine been rebuilt and its other history.
Thanks
Mel

Hi Mel,
Hope all is well!
Just wondering what you did with your Mini. I have exactly the same issue. I also have a 2010 Mini Cooper S (manual) that needs a new engine. It also has around 50k miles
Thanks,
Bob

Sounds very similar.
I ended up selling it to the mechanic
The warranty was only 1 year for a similar quote so although they get replacement engines from a reliable source it is not a long warranty.
You should probably get the clutch done at the same time.
In the end I weighed up the resell value with the price of the repairs I thought it was not worth it (Most people I talked to agreed).
I ended up with a Mazda
