I recently purchased a 2005 Mini S Convertible. I have done tons of reading before and since purchase. I know the top has issues with the cables but the guy I purchased it from was confident it wasn't the known cable issues and I agree from my research. I did replace the locking latch on the drivers side where it locks at the top of the windshield. It also had two broken hinges pieces in the back when you open it and lift the back glass but otherwise I have not been able to find any other problems. I have plenty of experience with cars but never had a convertible. The sunroof portion opens as it should, then when I push the button again to open the top the windows go down and it starts to go back a little more then the red light flashes. The one thing I have not tried yet but I will try to do tomorrow if weather holds out is to open the relief valve and manually open the top. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what this could be that will not let it open?

The car was originally in Georgia and is now in Colorado but only has 60,000 miles if that helps give any ideas.

 

Late to see this ...but I had this happen with my 2011 Convertible. Ended up the trunk cover wasn’t pushed into its proper position. As soon as I got that clicked into place, the top worked just fine. I have to look up the correct term for that cover then add to this post
