Angry new member with some problems

Hi I'm LindT and I'm on my second mini (the first got clobbered by an octogenarian). I live in Florida away from the coasts. I have a 2013 Mini Cooper S convertible with a manual tranny. After my first mini was totaled, it took more than a month to find another convertible with a manual transmission AND I had to drive 2 hours to see it. But I was determined. Anyway, I am currently having two problems - 1) convertible top will not go down and I get an error message that the trunk is open. I had a similar problem when the top wouldn't go up because the motor that controls the top stopped working. That time, I knew it was happening, so I looked for a new (to me) motor. Found one, got it installed and all was right with the world. I had had a problem with getting the trunk open, so I tied a line to the emergency handle on the inside of the trunk door, so I could pull the line to get it open. I left than line tied to the headrest of the back seats. I think that is the problem, but I don't see any way to get the inside of the trunk door off so I can fiddle with mechanism. Suggestions would be welcomed.
Problem #2 is the ac quit blowing cold air and living in central florida where it was 100F yesterday, has made me a little panicky to ride around in a black w/black top car. So compressor or just recharge. It blows hot air. Again, suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,
LindaT
