Default Trying to think positive

I bought a 2005 S 6 speed over a year ago from a local Mini dealer. The car has had major problems since I bought it. I have driven 8k since the original 50k when bought. Now, I face the issue if I want to purchase a new trans from the dealer for 10k....or as they tell me they can do it for $8600.00 since I have almost rebuilt the car... and spent so much money there. The problem is they first told me the electronic module might be bad, then they told me the engineers were unsure what the problem was since the trans is an enclosed unit and the tech's cannot open it. They mentioned the fluid was dark and smelled burnt, but there were no metal shavings...hmmm unsure what the truth is at this point so it sits at the dealer for now while I call around to euro mechanics to see if I can have it rebuilt. Any suggestions would be great.
