My 2007 Mini had started running rough and I bought a Foxwell scanner to be able to read the codes. It shows codes 2845, 287D and 2B55. After searching on the internet, it appears that this could be caused by faulty Solenoid's in the Vanos system. I have ordered replacements but was wondering if anyone one has additional insight. I also have the Bentley repair manual and found the codes but when cross referencing with the P-codes they have a different description. I have a couple of questions.
1. The Foxwell scanner provides number codes. The Bentley repair manual list all codes by P-XXXX. Is there a cross reference sheet somewhere? How do these two lists relate to each other? I finally found the corresponding codes after scanning all the code pages multiple times. In one case the same number code has two referenced P codes. See Below:
Foxwell 2B55 - DME Air Mass Sensor Plausibility / Bentley - P115D - Mass Air Flow "A" Volume too high
Foxwell 287D - DME Vanos Inlet / Bentley - P0004 -"A" Camshaft Position slow response Bank 1 / Bentley P000A - "A" Camshaft Position Timing over retarded Bank 1
Foxwell 2845 - DME Vanos Exhaust / Bentley P0015 - "B" Camshaft Timing over Retarded Bank 1

OK - so what does this all mean? For future reference how can I use this information to find out what parts I need and what needs repair. How would I determine that these codes have to do with the Solenoids in the Vanos system - other than researching on the internet. Is there a specific process that you follow? Right now, I am going with the most common online repair for these codes - but who knows. Any additional information and insight are greatly appreciated.
