Thank you for your offer to help.

I have a 2005 MCS, 6-speed manual, bought used at 34,000 miles; now 37,500 miles. The mpg has never been better than 25, no matter what speed or how hard/easy I drive it.

At 34,500 miles, I had allfluids, lubricants, belts, hoses, and filters replaced. Also had the cat replaced due to a rattle. The dealer did a complete diag, and found nothing wrong.

One reason I bought this car was the expected decent fuel economy. I have a 2002 BMW 530i, 5-speed manual, that gives 30mpg at 65 mph on highway. This Mini is disappointing.

Any help yo can offer would be appreciated.
its kinda hard to say, not being able to see the diag printout. the mpg is pretty average. is there any hesitation?

Any way to "permanently" turn on the SPORT BUTTON, as well as FRONT and REAR FOG LAMPS with daytime running lights? Thanks!

Hi everyone.

I'm new to this board but it's a great resource. Thanks for having me and I hope someone out there has a thought on an issue I've been having with my 2003 Mini Cooper S with around 65,000 miles on it.

For the past 2 years the air conditioning has been intermittent. The lights for the fan and temperature remain on but no air blows cold or hot. Sometimes it goes back on by itself after a few minutes of driving. Sometimes slapping the passenger side of the middle column (where the controls and radio are) makes it come back on. And sometimes it stays off for a day or two before spontaneously coming back to life. Its gotten to the point where I have a hardcover book with me at all times to do the slapping.

Has anyone seen this behavior in their Mini? Or does anyone have any suggestions before I thrown in the towel and take it back to the dealer again? I live in Austin and the closest dealer is in San Antonio, nearly 90 miles away. The two times I drove there with the problem, it worked for them. I even have documentation from the dealer the problem was an issue back when the car had 34,000 miles. We never know when the air conditioning will go out. Considering the temperature in Austin has hit 100 nearly 50 times this summer, do you blame us for not wanting to drive the car. Please offer us suggestions to have Mini USA pay for this. Its been an ongoing problem for 2 years. The 90 minute drive to San Antonio is hot and there's no guarantee the ac will misbehave once we get there. Ground breaking on the Austin Mini dealership is on hold so we're at the mercy of the San Antonio dealership.

My husband has a trick to get the ac to work. He has to drive over a narrow speed bump at around 10 mph. The rounded humps don't work, but the thin ones that give you a jolt seem to do the trick. Its gotten to the point that we want to install one of these speed bumps in our garage! Anyone out there have an answer to this dilemma?

Thanks.

Lisa

Probably something up with the central locking system, a solenoid or something like that.

WRONG ADAM!!!!!!!!! your bowden cable came unattached from the door latch. your best bet is to just replace the cable, for some reason if you keep reusing the same cable the little plastic piece that snaps into the door latch waers out and will not stay attached.

Is there ANYTHING I can do about the darn glove compartment opening everytime I hit a tiny bump? It is SO annoying. I was hoping to get more than 22 mpg as well...thats kinda annoying as well:P

Good luck getting more than 22mpg while having some fun with it.[8D]

Next time I go out to my car I'll check out how the latch works and see if I can come up with something that might help.

Hi Mini-tech! Thanks for being here for us. I have a 2003 with a RF tire that leaks, so I fill it about every 3 weeks. Last time I used my little compressor while Mini was running, then turned off, then turned back on to reset the RF indicator..something bad happened.

The airbag indicator came on and some loud clicks....sounds like computer whirring and no ignition......!!! Whas up? Got any idea? It sounds like I need to reset something because I sure didn't do anything to the door or frame or seat to make the airbag dislodge.

All I can find in my manual is to go to a dealer for checking. Since I can't start it....that means a tow + a looksee + them resetting it for $$$$$$$$$ and more $$$$$$$.

Sure would appreciate an idea from you,

Thanks Lynn Mckinney

Thanks for the reply adam! SO getting 22mpg is normal? I guess that makes me feel better. I thought maybe I bought a bum car or something. I just went to lunch and the darn glove box opened up twice! its killing me. :P
