Default 2017 Battery not charging and overheating

Any IDEAS?! Help! Hi All! So my Mini has been my dream car since they forst got back to the US. I finally got mine in 17, LOVE IT! I only have 18,600 miles on it. This morning it said ‘battery not sufficiently charged’ then he said it was over heating and to pull over. I put water in and we checked everything then we saw the serpentine belt shredded. Isnt my car a little young for that to happen?! I live in SoCal and it gets crazy hot. Can heat dry out a belt if the car sits in the sun?! I just dont understand how this happens and I have to pay for a tow to Mini. Any advice I would appreciate!

Default Belt issue

Hi,
belts will deteriorate with things like, age, heat sun and dirt, may have been over tensioned and that will cause stress, replace the belt and check the pullies don't have any burs that can fray the belt
