Default New to Minis, Looking to buy

Hi everyone,

I am just deciding I am in the market for a mini cooper, and had a couple sort of pesky small things I haven't been able to find much information on.

I'm looking at the 07+ Mini Cooper S. I was wondering how the phone connectivity in these is? Is there a year that has better connectivity?

Also I was wondering about the key, I know it has push button start, but it has that little spot for the key to be placed. Does the key have to be in its cradle to use the car? I know some Priuses (IDK what the plural for Prius is) have a similar spot but the key doesn't have to be placed there to use the car. I really like on my Lexus just being able to leave the key in my pocket.

Also Id love to hear any other things I should be looking for. I'm definitely going for a manual, and hardtop.

Thanks for any input!
